Maine Magician

What a fun weekend it was to be a magician here in Maine. For me, the highlight of my shows this weekend was my “Reading is Magic” program at the Hampden municipal building in Hampden, Maine. Hampden is home to Maine’s easiest to remember zip code: 04444! The weather for “Reading is Magic” Saturday morning was frightfully rainy. The facility is very modern and spacious, and luckily for me the rain subsided momentarily to allow me to pack into the building withour getting drenched. A big, sturdy, 3 tiered audio visual cart was available for me to transport my props to the performing area–I am a BIG fan of things with WHEELS! Set up was very relaxed, as I had arrived 90 minutes prior to showtime. I love to set up early and in a relaxed atmosphere–it really helps me get into the “zone” for performing. The hospitality was provided by Debbie, and we enjoyed our conversation about Maine life, magic, gerdening, farming, etc. By now it was really raining hard outside. Hampden’s SAD 22 had cancelled all the youth soccer games for the day–the rain was so torrential! I joked that the crowd would probably skew towards those families who had attached garages!  The crowd started to arrive about 30 minutes before show time.

I chit chatted with the crowd, young and young at heart alike.  I really do want to thank everyone who attended the “Reading is Magic!”  We had well over a hundred in the audience.  Soon is was Debbie’s turn to introduce Maine’s Master Magician (me) and the show was underway.  There is something heartwarming about being a magician in Maine.  The audience we drew was very warm and portrayed a real sense of family!  I had good energy during the performance and really enjoyed showing my magic, and conveying my message to the kids: be a GOOD reader—it is so important to your future!

Soon the performance was over (45 minutes flies when you’re having fun!) and the kids and parents were visiting with BUNNICULA the fuzzy rabbit and me.  Lots of folks made inquiries into my Birthday Magic Shows, and other shows.  Then it was time for packing up and packing out.  I do want to thank MSAD 22 and RSU26 for sponsoring the show.  Soon I was packed into the MagicMobile and ready to hit the road.  Debbie stayed with me till the very end, and we enjoyed our conversation.  We said our goodbyes and I drove off– it was still raining– but it was still a great weekend to be a magician in Maine!
